Rockets’ Jeff Green’s 10-day span coincide with matchups vs. Jazz, Grizzlies
The Houston Rockets made a splash in the post-trade deadline free agency market this week, signing veteran forwards DeMarre Carroll (buyout with the San Antonio Spurs) and Jeff Green, who inked a 10-day contract with the Southwest Division club.
The initial 10-day deal will span four games for Green, 33, and the Rockets, with matchups including the former fifth-overall pick of the 2007 NBA Draft’s ex-teams in the Utah Jazz and the Memphis Grizzlies (via ESPN’s Bobby Marks).
Houston makes it official on the Jeff Green 10-Day. The contract will cover 4 games (at GSW, at UTH, vs. NYK and vs. MEM) and expire on Feb. 27. Green will earn $144,901 with Houston incurring a $91,557 cap hit.

Green, a 6-foot-8 power forward, last played for the Jazz after signing a one-year deal with the franchise last summer as a free agent. In 30 games with Utah, Green averaged 7.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in 18.4 minutes per game primarily off the bench, shooting 38.5% from the field and 32.7% from 3-point range.
Green joins a radically different Rockets squad after the NBA’s trade deadline following the blockbuster, four-team deal with Clint Capela at the center. With Houston shipping off their longtime center, the team has gone all out in securing the quality veteran wings on the free agency market, including Carroll and Green.
Prior to Green’s half-season tenure with the Jazz, he spent 98 games between the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons with the Grizzlies. Green, a Maryland native and Georgetown product, will face the Jazz on Saturday, Feb. 22, and the Grizzlies on Wednesday, Feb. 26, should the vet get minutes.
Before the NBA’s All-Star break in Chicago, the Rockets were able to see a small sample of their big gamble: trading Capela for Robert Covington. In four games with Houston, the sharpshooting forward has averaged 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds.
