Rockets’ Jeff Green already wants to stay in Houston for the long term

Jeff Green, Rockets

Jeff Green has only played five games for the Houston Rockets.

But the veteran forward has become enamored with the franchise, and he hopes to make Houston his home for the foreseeable future.

Green said he and his wife are happy in Houston. He also lauded the city for what it has to offer both from a basketball standpoint as well as a personal perspective (via Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle):

“It’s a great city, great culture,” he said. “My wife loves it. That’s the biggest say so now in the household. As long as my wife loves it, I love playing basketball. Houston being a great city, I’d love to stay there.”

Green signed a 10-day contract with the Rockets back on Feb. 18, and Houston has since signed him to a guaranteed deal for the remainder of the season.

The 33-year-old is averaging 8.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in his brief stint with the Rockets while also shooting nearly 53 percent from beyond the arc. Green struggled to get it going offensively against the Boston Celtics on Saturday night (just 1-of-5 from the field), but he did add two blocks on the defensive end.

Houston are still figuring out their rotations as they buy into the “small ball” strategy, but Green’s profile could make him an ideal fit for the bench unit.

Green can spread the floor while also providing defensive versatility, and he is the sort of athletic wing the Rockets seem to covet.

Whether Houston are willing to commit to Green as a part of their future is another question, but he seems to be happy with his current situation.
