Houston Rockets superstar shooting guard James Harden does his best to block out all the outside noise, but the reigning MVP admits it’s hard to hear ex-NBA players criticize his game.
Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant said Harden’s style of basketball won’t win a team a championship, while NBA Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen said the way Harden plays isn’t attractive or fun to watch.
In an interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols, James Harden says everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but that it’s difficult to hear players who have played the game be so harsh on his style of play.
“I try my best to block it out,” Harden said. “But it’s kind of hard, especially when it’s coming from like ex-NBA players, you know? It makes it more difficult. But, obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion.”
Harden has scored at least 30 points in 31 consecutive games. “The Beard” leads the NBA in scoring at 36.6 points per game and usage percentage at 40.3.
The way Harden draws fouls makes a lot of people who watch the game angry. But shouldn’t they be mad at the referees instead of the player? After all, Harden isn’t calling fouls for himself.
The Rockets are 33-24 on the season, good for fifth place in the Western Conference standings. Harden’s game is going to be analyzed and bashed for the rest of the season, but he can’t pay attention to that as he has a job to do and that’s to lead his team on a long postseason run.
