The Houston Rockets are fortunate to have such a talented duo in James Harden and Russell Westbrook. Their outstanding performance in the last two games would remind some fans of the dominance another big pairing showcased during the nineties.

NBA Stats revealed after Houston’s 140-112 dominance over the Memphis Grizzlies that their performance harks back to the time Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler both donned Rockets jerseys. It was the first time in a long time that a pair of players scored more than 30 points for the Rockets in two straight games.

Some fans may even argue that it’s mind-boggling for this achievement this late in the season. Both Harden and Westbrook are outstanding offensive juggernauts that it wouldn’t be weird to expect 30 points to come from the two every night.

However, it’s important to note that this is the first time in a long time that the two played together on the same team. They had to get used to each other’s tendencies once again during the first half of the season. The fruits of their labor are starting to show as they are difficult to contain on the floor together.

Rockets fans should feel excited that their new duo achieved something not done since Olajuwon’s heyday. The Rockets haven’t sniffed the Larry O’Brien trophy since their back-to-back wins in 1995 and 1996, and the fans are hungry for a win. The Rockets are playing very attractive basketball at the moment. The fact that they have two top dogs leading the team should make fans excited about their chances this year.

Things are definitely looking up for the Rockets this season. Hopefully, their hearts won’t be broken come the playoffs.
