Rockets’ James Harden, Russell Westbrook becomes highest-scoring duo since ABA-NBA merge

To say that the awesome pairing of James Harden and Russell Westbrook has been a success for the Houston Rockets would be an understatement. Just recently, this duo just set a new scoring record that dates back since the ABA and the NBA merged in 1976.

By combining for an average of 61.7 points per contest, Harden and Westbrook have now become the top-scoring pair in the history of the NBA:

The fact that Harden and Westbrook just surpassed Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers — considered to be one of the greatest pairings of all time — makes this feat even more impressive. They did not only overtake the Lakers dynamic duo, but they did so by a country mile.

The Rockets actually took on the Lakers in their last outing, and it resulted in a lopsided win by Houston, 113-97. Westbrook was dealing with a quad issue and was forced to sit this one out, so in his stead, Harden went to work. Harden finished with a game-high 39 points on 11-of-19 shooting (5-of-10 from distance, 12-of-12 from the charity stripe), eight rebounds, 12 assists, three steals, and a block. He did turn the rock over 10 times, which was a sour note on an otherwise stellar performance.

Houston is now fourth in the West, with just a game and a half behind the third-seeded Denver Nuggets. It is worth noting that the second-placed Los Angeles Clippers are just three games ahead of them, so at this point, a second-seed finish is still attainable for the Rockets.
