Rockets’ James Harden reacts to passing Scottie Pippen on scoring list while playing in Chicago

James Harden, Scottie Pippen

Houston Rockets superstar James Harden passed Scottie Pippen on the all-time scoring list in their game against, ironically, the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night. The 2017-18 MVP moved into 58th on the prestigious list, surpassing Pippen, who amassed 18,940 points through his Hall of Fame career.

Following the game, a reporter asked the crafty superstar what accomplishing this milestone and getting recognized in the history books mean to him. While Harden thinks it’s great, he would rather focus on their ultimate goal as a team, and that is to win the NBA championship:

That’s a great mindset coming from The Beard.

After dropping 42 points against the Bulls, Harden now has a total of 18,961 points for his career.

Harden has also had his fair share of individual awards and accolades throughout his career. He first won Sixth Man of the Year, then won MVP, and and has won multiple scoring titles.

Nonetheless, even though he has achieved a lot of individual accomplishments in his career, Harden still keeps himself focused on his ultimate goal: getting that Larry O’Brien Trophy.

The Rockets sputtered out of the gates to begin the season, but are slowly starting to regain their groove. They have looked better and won three straight since losing back-to-back games last week.

At his current rate, Harden might be well on his way to having another historically insane scoring campaign for the second season in a row. In nine games so far, Harden is averaging an absurd 37.1 points on 39.4 percent shooting. He is averaging over 24 attempts from the field, over 14 triple tries, and over 15 trips to the charity stripe per contest.

Obviously, these numbers aren’t ideal and sustainable for the entire season as James Harden’s wheels might eventually fall off, like in the past. Nevertheless, if this is what it takes for the Rockets to be successful, then so be it.
