Houston Rockets superstar James Harden has been cooking as of late and has recorded a stat line that lined him up with NBA legend Oscar Robertson.

According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, Harden became only the second player to tally 35 points and five assists in seven straight games. Before Harden joined the list, Robertson, known as a stat-sheet stuffer, was the only player to achieve the feat. Feigen added that Harden is thrilled to be mentioned alongside the Big O.

“That’s what I play for, to be mentioned with the greats,” Harden said, according to Feigen. “Obviously, I have a long way to go, but that’s what I put my jersey on for, what I lace my shoes up for, to be mentioned as one of the best players to ever touch a basketball.”

James Harden had another hot-shooting night for Houston on Saturday night. The reigning NBA Most Valuable Player finished with 41 points on top of nine rebounds and six assists. The high-scoring guard led his Rockets to a hard-earned 108-104 win over the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center.

The former Arizona State standout was inconsistent earlier in the season but is now showing his MVP form. He has scored at least 30 points in nine straight games, and in 10 of their last 11 games.

Against the Boston Celtics on Thursday, Harden erupted for 45 points, recording a career-high nine three-pointers made. In their 113-109 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday, the nine-year veteran posted 41 points to go along with seven assists and six rebounds.

Harden leads the league in scoring with 33.0 points per game and is way ahead of second-leading scorer Kevin Durant, who is averaging 28.7 points this season. With Harden leading the way for Houston, the Rockets have now won in nine of their last 10 games, slowly recovering from their 1-5 start this season.
