Rockets’ James Harden never bothered to take a shot despite streak being in peril

James Harden, Rockets

Houston Rockets star James Harden had a chance to continue his 30-point streak in the closing seconds of their 119-111 win over the Atlanta Hawks. However, the reigning NBA MVP didn’t care about the streak at all.

Per Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, Harden shared that he unleashed a barrage of 32 straight games with at least 30 points because he needed to help his team win. Now that the Rockets roster is complete and healthy, the he claimed that he doesn’t need to put up superhuman scoring figures again.

“For what? That streak was great, but I was just doing it because that’s what we had to do to keep our heads above water. Now we have our full roster back. We had multiple guys (six) in double figures. It was great to see.”

James Harden finished with 28 points — two points short of 30 — which would’ve extended his streak to 33 games. His run of games with 30 or more points was the second-longest in NBA history, albeit way behind a 65-game streak by basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain.

The Rockets are now 6-7 this season when Harden doesn’t score at least 30 points. The team is 26-16 when he drops 30 or more.

Thanks to Harden’s efforts, the Rockets have climbed back from one of the early bottom-feeders in the Western Conference to safely within the playoff race. With Chris Paul, Clint Capela and the rest of the Houston players back and healthy, fans should expect the team to pile up the victories in the coming games.

The Clutch City team heads to North Carolina next to face the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday.
