Rockets’ James Harden has most instances of consecutive 40-point triple-doubles in NBA history

As the NBA’s reigning MVP, James Harden knows a thing or two about scoring the rock. However, this latest accomplishment has placed the Houston Rockets All-Star in rare air.

Harden and the Rockets squared off against the Golden State Warriors inside Oracle Arena on Thursday night, resulting in a 135-134 overtime victory for Houston.

The Beard posted yet another triple-double performance. In his 44 minutes of action, the former Arizona State standout posted a whopping 44 points on 13-of-32 shooting from the field (10-of-23 from beyond the arc), 15 assists, 10 rebounds, two blocks and one steal.

According to Justin Kubatko of StatMuse, Harden has now recorded consecutive triple-doubles on three separate occasions, which is the most in NBA history. The only other players to achieve such a feat are “Pistol” Pete Maravich, Russell Westbrook (twice) and Michael Jordan.

“I take my shots, I drive to the basket,” Harden told ESPN after Thursday’s game. “I shoot my step-backs with confidence and live with the results.”

Dating back to his 50-point game on Dec. 13 against the Los Angeles Lakers, James Harden has scored at least 30 points in 11 straight outings.

Harden, now 29 years of age, is currently posting some of the best statistical figures of his career. He has made 34 appearances with the Rockets this season, racking up averages of 33.6 points on 44.0 percent shooting from the field (38.9 percent from beyond the arc), 8.6 assists, 5.9 rebounds and 2.1 steals in 37.1 minutes per contest.

The Rockets (22-15 and first in the Southwest Division standings) will be back in action on Saturday, when they’ll travel to Portland for a matchup against the Trail Blazers. Tip-off inside the Moda Center is set for 10:00 p.m. ET.
