Rockets’ James Harden follows Michael Jordan, record most points through 8 games to start a season

James Harden of the Houston Rockets has followed Michael Jordan for the most points through the first eight games of the regular season.

Per Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, Harden has a total of 292 points — the most since Jordan who put up 302 points in the first eight games of the 1988-89 season.

With his 36 points, Harden has the most points through 8 games to start a season (292) since Michael Jordan put up 302 to begin the 1988-89 season. In the past two games, he has made 13 3-pointers on 40.6 % shooting. Made 21.5 % in first six games.

So far, Harden is averaging 36.5 points per game on 38.1 percent shooting from the field and 25.3 percent from deep. He has two 40-point games and a 59-point outburst in their 159-158 win over the Washington Wizards.

The former MVP is considered one of the most prolific scorers in the NBA. He has won the last two scoring titles and has forged his name in several scoring records. From the looks of it, he’s not stopping anytime soon.

Even with Russell Westbrook donning the Rockets jersey, Harden is still getting his shots (although he is obviously struggling knocking them down in an efficient rate).

While Harden did not invent the stepback 3-pointer, he has mastered and utilized it to perfection. Though defenders know that he’s going to unleash it at any given moment, they still don’t know how to contain him.

With their win over the Golden State Warriors, the Rockets have extended their streak to two games. They’ll head to United Center to face the Chicago Bulls on Saturday, followed by the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center on Monday.
