Rockets’ James Harden discusses potential addition of Carmelo Anthony (Video)

Following the Oklahoma City Thunder shipping former NBA All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony to the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday, leading to a buyout, has put the Houston Rockets in the driver seat to add him to the mix.

With that in mind, reigning league MVP James Harden has chimed in on the situation calling the potential signing of Anthony a “great acquisition” for the Rockets this offseason, according to Adam Wexler of KPRC2.

‘It would be a great acquisition for us. Melo is a proven vet. He just wants to win at this point. It would be great to have him on our team. We got get guys back. I think we made forward progress.”

Houston has had a few notable roster departures this summer with both veteran forward Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah A Moute each choosing to sign elsewhere in free agency. It has pushed forward the need to strengthen the small forward position where Anthony can swoop in to help in a huge way offensively.

Although his play has taken a notable dip in the last couple of years, Anthony is a proven scorer who’s shown that he can create his own shot while being a stable source of offensive production. He has a chance to be able to excel in that type of role with the Rockets playing alongside two of the top guards in the league that has each demonstrated to be tremendous passers and playmakers.

The 34-year-old is in the tail end of his career, but this may be his best opportunity at this point to win his NBA title with a team that was just one win away from reaching the NBA Finals. This is a pairing that should be penciled in at some point in the near future this offseason.
