Rockets’ James Ennis set to return vs. Warriors barring practice setback

James Ennis, Rockets

Houston Rockets small forward James Ennis will play against the Golden State Warriors on Thursday at Oracle Arena as long as he doesn’t suffer a setback in Wednesday’s practice, according to Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni.

James Ennis has been out of the lineup since Dec. 11 due to a strained right hamstring. It’s already the second time this season Ennis has dealt with a hamstring injury.

James Ennis is averaging 8.0 points and 2.7 rebounds per game for the Rockets this season. The 28-year-old forward is shooting 48.9 percent from the floor, 36.3 percent from beyond the arc and 71.0 percent from the free-throw line. He has played in 23 games this year.

The Rockets enter their matchup versus the Warriors on a five-game winning streak.

After splitting time between the Memphis Grizzlies and Detroit Pistons last season, James Ennis signed a two-year, $3.46 million deal with Houston in the offseason. His stats won’t ever jump off the page, but Ennis is a guy who can defend wing players at a high level and hit open shots from the perimeter.

Rockets All-Star point guard Chris Paul and shooting guard Eric Gordon are currently sidelined for the Rockets, so the return of James Ennis is crucial. It gives Houston another live body.
