Rockets’ James Ennis might return to starting lineup if he returns as expected vs. Nets

James Ennis

The Houston Rockets are floundering early on this season, and injuries have played a huge part in their slow start. James Ennis has been dealing with a hamstring issue that has kept him out of Houston’s last four games. But the Rockets are now saying that Ennis is probable for the team’s matchup with the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night, per Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle.

Additionally, Feigen is reporting that Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni “might” start Ennis, likely moving Carmelo Anthony back to the bench. Houston desperately needs to right the ship. Adding Ennis back to the mix will certainly go a long way towards establishing some continuity for D’Antoni.

But the Rockets need their MVP, James Harden, back more than anything. Harden, much like Ennis, is dealing with a hamstring issue and isn’t expected to return until the weekend. Chris Paul is back, but he’s missed games this year as well due to a suspension.

The Rockets entered this season with major questions after the losses of Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah a Moute. Through six games, they haven’t answered any of those questions. Carmelo Anthony and James Ennis were supposed to fill the void left by Ariza and Mbah a Moute, but Ennis’ injury and Anthony’s glaring deficiencies on defense are part of the slow start for D’Antoni’s squad.

The season is far from over. The Rockets have only played six games, but any slow start could hurt their chances at securing a top seed in the Western Conference.
