Everyone knows Mike D’Antoni’s basic philosophy as a coach is pretty simple. Play an up and down pace and shoot as many threes as possible. When he took over the Houston Rockets, it was a perfect team to implement his philosophy with as they are a group that loves to shoot the three ball.
For the Rockets, though, that love for the 3-pointer has actually broken an NBA record.

The Rockets are the first team in NBA history to attempt at least 25 long distance shots in 76 straight games. Most games, though, they aren’t attempting around the 25 per game mark — they are way above that. So far this season, the Rockets are attempting 42.4 shots from the 3-point line, and making 15.5 of them with is 36.7 percent from deep.
MVP favorite James Harden is leading the team attempting 10.5 per game from deep, and former 3-point champion Eric Gordon is a close second averaging 9.1 attempts.
The 3-point shooting has led to a lot of success for the Rockets in terms of wins and losses. They are currently sitting with a 51-13 record and are in the middle of a 17-game win streak. That impressive record gives them a one-game lead over the defending champions Golden State Warriors.
It’s impressive how many 3-pointers the Rockets have made, but right now the most important part is getting ready for the playoffs.
With how well they have played this year, and all the talent on the team, it seems like it’s NBA Championship or bust for this team this year.
