Rockets guard Eric Gordon out Saturday, doubtful Monday

Eric Gordon, Rockets

Houston Rockets shooting guard Eric Gordon, who has a contusion in his right knee, is going to miss his third game in a row on Saturday when the team takes on the Portland Trail Blazers on the road.

The Rockets are listing Eric Gordon as day-to-day, but according to head coach Mike D’Antoni, Gordon will likely miss Monday’s game against the Denver Nuggets as well.

Gordon has appeared in 32 games this season, establishing himself as one of the best scorers and shooters on the team. The 30-year-old is averaging 15.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per contest while shooting 38.1 percent from the field, 30.3 percent from beyond the arc and 77.8 percent from the foul line.

Houston is the hottest team in the NBA right now. The Rockets have won six games in a row and 11 of their last 12 matches. The absence of Gordon is a big one, but reigning MVP James Harden has been on such a scoring tear lately that it almost seems he can singlehandedly win games by himself like he did on Thursday against the Golden State Warriors.

Gordon is the third leading scorer on the Rockets behind Harden and big man Clint Capela. Houston will likely update his playing status on a daily basis.
