Rockets GM Daryl Morey pokes fun at Knicks on Twitter

Daryl Morey, Rockets, Knicks

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey had some fun at the expense of the New York Knicks on Monday.

While having a friendly Twitter chat with two NBA reporters about old phones and calculators, the Rockets general manager made a joke about the Knicks.

The Knicks have given out some awful contracts over the years. It looks like that’s what Daryl Morey is talking about here.

New York has been a walking disaster under owner James Dolan. The Rockets, meanwhile, have been a perennial playoff team over the last decade. Morey became an executive with the Houston franchise in 2007 and has made a bunch of great moves, even winning the 2018 Executive of the Year award.

Morey and the Rockets made a big splash this summer by acquiring former MVP Russell Westbrook from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Houston is now the only team in the NBA with two former MVPs on its roster. Westbrook won the 2017 MVP award, while James Harden captured the 2018 MVP trophy.

The Knicks used their cap space this summer on Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Taj Gibson, Elfrid Payton, Reggie Bullock, Marcus Morris and Wayne Ellington after missing out on stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. While New York will be more competitive next campaign, it didn’t use its money that wisely this offseason.
