Rockets GM Daryl Morey on the Warriors’ chemistry building with DeMarcus Cousins

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has reacted to one of the free-agent acquisitions that took the NBA by storm this offseason: the Golden State Warriors’ addition of four-time All-Star DeMarcus Cousins on a one-year deal.

Morey was a guest on The Dan Patrick Show and shared his true sentiments and concerns regarding the deal, as the two-time defending champions rolled the dice with a big man coming off a nasty Achilles injury.

Via Dan Feldman of NBC Sports Bay Area:

“I was really curious,” said Morey. “[GM] Bob [Myers] is really good at his job, and he likes to take smart gambles like I do. So, I understood the move. But it’s gonna be interesting. Coach Kerr is one of the best, too. So, it’s a little scary. They’ll probably figure out how to make it work, but it’s a little bit hard on paper to figure out how to make it work. But we do that well and so do they, obviously. They’re gonna be a tough out again, obviously. They’re arguably the best team in NBA history. They’re on their path to maybe be able to make that argument.”

Cousins is not expected back until late December or January, as Achilles injuries often take around 10 months to fully heal. The Warriors still have more than enough firepower to mow down through the regular season without Cousins, so they will likely make it a goal to get their new big-man addition ready for the postseason.

Morey lost out on forward Trevor Ariza early in free agency, but managed to retain point guard Chris Paul and center Clint Capela on long-term contracts, as well as add Carmelo Anthony on a veteran’s minimum deal.

It will surely be a battle of titans in the Western Conference, as several teams have loaded up in hopes to dethrone the Warriors from their reign of terror.
