Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey confirmed ESPN’s report that the team is moving on from Carmelo Anthony.
Anthony only played in 10 games with the Rockets and has been away from the team since last week.
“After much internal discussion, the Rockets will be parting ways with Carmelo Anthony and we are working toward a resolution,” said Morey. “Carmelo had a tremendous approach during his time with the Rockets and accepted every role head coach Mike D’Antoni gave him. The fit we envisioned when Carmelo chose to sign with the Rockets has not materialized, therefore we thought it was best to move on as any other outcome would have been unfair to him.”
The Oklahoma City Thunder traded Carmelo Anthony to the Atlanta Hawks in the offseason. The Hawks then waived Anthony, allowing the 10-time All-Star to sign with the Rockets on a one-year deal.
The prevailing thought was playing with his pal, All-Star point guard Chris Paul, and reigning MVP James Harden would help Carmelo Anthony become an effective player in Houston.
That wasn’t the case at all, as Anthony was a huge negative for the Rockets when he was on the court.
Houston had a net rating of minus-9.0 with Anthony on the court and minus-0.2 with him on the bench, per NBA.com. Anthony averaged 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game with the Rockets while shooting 40.5 percent from the field and 32.8 percent from beyond the arc in the 10 games he’s played in.
