Rockets GM Daryl Morey calls LeBron James ‘the greatest ever’
Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey gave some major props to his soon-to-be Western Conference foe, LeBron James, calling him the greatest player ever during a guest interview on The Dan Patrick Show.
Patrick asked him what teams he should be eyeing in preparation for this 2018-19 season, with the conversation naturally turning to the new-look Los Angeles Lakers, who now boast a vital weapon.
“I would never count out a LeBron James team, he’s the greatest ever in my mind and it’d be very hard to count him out,” said Morey.
Patrick would go on to low-key troll him, asking if his analysis of James as “the best ever” is based on his high-level analytics, to which Morey nodded but also admitted eye test is involved.
“Yeah,” said Morey. “I mean, you just look at his ability to generate wins and championship probability over time and basically break that down and obviously you don’t need all the numbers, you just watch him as well and see that, but if you basically isolate that and just look at the career he’s had, frankly at this point I think it’s become a bit of a big margin where he’s come out ahead. I know that’s a little bit controversial.”
Morey has been known to laud his very own superstar, James Harden, putting him even on top of James as the outright MVP in several occasions, making this a rather perplexing statement from a team loyalist like he’s proven to be over the years.
