Rockets GM Daryl Morey believes Rockets can win the championship this season
Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has always been one to think outside the box, and this season is no exception. According to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com, Morey feels that the Rockets can win the championship this season:
“We’ve still got a long way to go, but we’re hoping to peak in [playoffs], and we really feel like we can peak better than last year,” said Morey. “We’ll see if that’s good enough to win the title. We feel like that very much is good enough, but we’ve got to prove it.”
Not sure I’m with you there, Daryl, but okay.
The Rockets have certainly been playing well lately, having won six straight games and 11 of their last 12 to improve to 22-15 after a 11-14 start. Interestingly enough, this recent six-game winning streak has come without the services of Chris Paul, who strained his hamstring during the team’s loss to the Miami Heat on Dec. 20.
During this surge, the Rockets have beaten the likes of the San Antonio Spurs, Oklahoma City Thunder, Boston Celtics and, most recently, the Golden State Warriors in a 20-point comeback at Oracle Arena on Thursday night, so it’s not like they have been beating up on cupcakes, either.
James Harden is playing out of his mind, currently owning a stretch of five straight games in which he has scored over 40 points, and over the last 12 contests, he has registered seven 40-plus point efforts, including a 50-point outburst in a win over the Los Angeles Lakers back on Dec. 13.
Still, it’s hard to imagine that this current iteration of Houston can win a title, particularly without a healthy Paul.
But, stranger things have happened.
