Houston Rockets forward Gary Clark received a full-fledged three-year, $3.7 million deal from the organization after taking over the bulk of Carmelo Anthony’s minutes. The undrafted forward is still coming down from the cloud, having achieved his longtime dream of becoming an NBA player.
“It felt kind of unreal, all I’ve been through to get to this point. From injuries to everyone on the outside not believing in me,” said Clark, reflecting on his trajectory to the NBA, according to Mark Berman of Fox26 News. “Nothing is secure in this business. You have to perform every day.”
Clark did work exhaustingly to get to this point in his career, grabbing the attention of coach Mike D’Antoni with his grit and constant motor on the floor.
“It means a lot because that’s my story, all the way back before Cincinnati, not having anything and earning it all and proving everyone wrong,” said Clark. “It’s a great feeling.”
Clark’s signing pushed Danuel House Jr. to a two-way contract, virtually swapping spots on the roster, as Clark figures to be an energy jolt off D’Antoni’s bench for the time being.
The Rockets have struggled to an 11-13 start of the season and have quickly gone from the NBA’s best record to a team fighting to sniff the playoffs.
Gary Clark should play an integral part off D’Antoni’s bench moving forward and help the team gain its edge back after looking out of sync for most of this NBA season.
