Rockets ‘feared’ Warriors in past seasons, owner Tilman Fertitta admits
Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta admits the Rockets were scared of the Golden State Warriors the past few seasons.
The Rockets never defeated the Warriors during the playoffs when the Dubs were title contenders. Fertitta says this year’s Houston club doesn’t fear anyone in the Western Conference:
“None of us fear L.A. (the Lakers) or the Clippers or Denver like we feared Golden State,” Fertitta told Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman. “It’s not like how we were scared of them.”
The Rockets are 37-20 on the season. They are in fourth place in the Western Conference standings. MVPs James Harden and Russell Westbrook are currently clicking on all cylinders. Houston also made some good acquisitions recently.
The Rockets acquired Robert Covington from the Minnesota Timberwolves and signed Jeff Green and DeMarre Carroll.
The Warriors will be missing the playoffs this season for the first time in the Steve Kerr era. The Dubs currently have the worst record in the league. This is after Golden State went to five straight NBA Finals and notoriously stopped the Rockets from winning a championship.
With the Dubs finally out of the picture, Fertitta believes his Rockets have a great shot of finally winning the Western Conference and advancing to the NBA Finals. For that to happen, Houston will likely have to deal with the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers in the postseason.
