Rockets’ Eric Gordon to be re-evaluated ‘at the end of the week’

Eric Gordon, Rockets

Eric Gordon, who has been out for more than a week due to a knee injury, may be close to returning to the red-hot Houston Rockets.

On Monday, Rockets Head Coach Mike D’Antoni  said that Eric Gordon would be re-evaluated “at the end of the week.”

Of course, being re-evaluated does not mean that Gordon will return to the court this weekend, but this is a positive injury update for the fifth-seed Rockets.

Gordon sustained the injury on Dec. 29 in a game against the New Orleans Pelicans. Gordon fell early in the fourth quarter and had to leave the game minutes later. The injury was ruled as a knee contusion and has caused the 30-year-old guard to miss the last three games.

D’Antoni’s update likely also rules Gordon out for the next three games against the Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee Bucks and Cleveland Cavaliers.

Losing Gordon, who was inserted in the starting lineup following Chris Paul’s hamstring injury, has forced the Rockets to play with a tighter rotation. While Gordon has struggled with his shot this year, he remains an important part of Houston.

Gordon has averaged 15.7 points per game this year but has shot just 38.1 percent from the field and 30.3 percent from deep. The Rockets are certainly hoping his shot will start dropping when he returns.
