Rockets’ Eric Gordon on trade rumors: ‘I know what I am to this team’

Eric Gordon, Rockets

Shooting guard Eric Gordon isn’t concerning himself with the flood of trade rumors surrounding the Houston Rockets since they were once again bounced out of the postseason at the hands of the Golden State Warriors, knowing his place is secure within the team:

“I’m not really worried about that because I know what I am to this team,” Gordon told Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle on Tuesday. “When your name is in a lot of trades that means a lot of teams want you and they’re asking about you. But this team knows what I do and what I bring to the table.”

Gordon said general manager Daryl Morey “kept my agent informed” about the trades, letting him know if the rumors were unfounded. That only made it easier for Gordon to assess his place with the team:

“I always knew what status I was in,” Gordon said. “At the end of the day, I just have to continue to play. I’m looking forward to what we’re going to do next year.”

A trade involving Gordon, though, remains a feasible possibility, considering the Rockets have tried to get their hands on every major free agent or trade target available in Morey’s never-ending quest of amassing talent and finding a way to make it work.

Despite being questioned by scouts and executives around the league, Morey’s pursuit of Jimmy Butler never materialized. Now the GM might be eyeing Russell Westbrook, who is available for trade, but a hard target to bring in due to available assets and the complications of a potential three-way deal.
