Houston Rockets center DeMarcus Cousins was not pleased to hear what James Harden said following the team’s loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.
Cousins took on a similar tone as point guard John Wall, saying the team is none too pleased with how Harden has carried himself:
“Obviously, it’s disrespectful, but everybody has a right to their opinion. We feel some type of way about some of his actions,” Cousins said, via ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.
However, Cousins also made sure to clarify the “disrespect” from Harden has been a pretty common theme even before Tuesday’s press conference:
“The disrespect started way before any interview,” Cousins said, via Marc Stein of the New York Times.
Harden ripped into the team’s potential Tuesday, saying the Rockets simply were not good enough to contend with the elite teams in the Western Conference and doubling down on his trade demands.
Wall responded in turn, saying it was hard for the Rockets to get on the same page and build when their star player was not committed. Wall also questioned Harden making such comments just nine games into the season.
Things have now reached a boiling point, with Houston on the verge of trading Harden and telling “The Beard” to stay away from practice until a deal is finalized. But as Cousins suggested, this has been in the making for some time.
Harden skipped training camp to part in Las Vegas and Atlanta. He went after rookie Jae’Sean Tate in practice. On Tuesday, he all but gave up on his teammates, despite the fact Harden himself has had less-than-stellar performances as of late.
Regardless, it seems Cousins and the rest of the Rockets roster will be glad to see this saga come to an end.
