Rockets’ DeMarcus Cousins’ creative dap with Rudy Gay screams new normal

Spurs, Rockets, DeMarcus Cousins, Rudy Gay

With COVID-19 taking center stage, everyone has no choice but to be creative in how they go about their daily lives. On Thursday, former teammates DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay did exactly that as they greeted each other ahead of the Houston Rockets’ game against the San Antonio Spurs.

The two old friends go way back in their Sacramento Kings days and had to show each other some love before tip-off. But, with all the health and safety protocols being rolled out by the league, the two tried their best to stay six feet apart and dapped each other with their feet.

Talk about the new normal low-five.

With all the confusing protocols and measures the league office has been dishing out, you’d understand the reluctance from both Cousins and Gay. The global pandemic continues to rock the world and the league has certainly felt the effects of this. As the weeks go by, more and more games are being postponed due to players testing positive for the deadly virus. Due to the league’s strict contact tracing protocols, just being in close contact with someone before or after the game can force you to quarantine.

This would be the worst possible time for the Rockets to miss a player like Cousins due to quarantine. The Rockets would need everyone in their roster available while they undergo a major overhaul after finally parting ways with their former franchise player in James Harden.

Boogie and the rest of the team would have to stay as safe as possible as they wait for the arrival of Victor Oladipo and transition to a new-look franchise.
