Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is confident that Russell Westbrook and James Harden — two former league MVPs — can power the team to a title.
In an appearance on Selfmade, Morey cited some facts from recent history. According to him, when two former MVPs are on the same team, they’ve always won the title. Of course, Morey is referring to Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry, who, when they were donning the Golden State Warriors jersey, made it to the NBA Finals three consecutive times, winning two.
“We have two recent MVPs, that’s happened only four times in NBA history where two MVPs are on the same team in a 3-year span. Every time that team has gone on to win the title. We’ll see. We’ll see if it works out for us.”

Morey’s claims refute those who are iffy about the Rockets’ Westbrook-Harden team-up. When the deal was finalized, analysts immediately tagged is as a recipe for success.
After all, though Harden and Westbrook share a rich history together, people believed that it was simply impossible for them to co-exist. Here you have two players who need the ball in their hands to be effective. Not to mention how similar their playstyle is, especially their tendency to do everything on the floor.
But the naysayers may have spoken too early. Morey may have the last laugh once it’s all said and done.
