Some in the NBA try to stay away from social media but for Houston Rockets Daryl Morey that isn’t the case. He might be the most active general manager in all of sports on social media, and he was back at it again on Saturday. Morey took over the Houston Rockets franchise’s esports organization, Clutch Gaming’s Instagram account and did a question and answer with fans.
One of the questions asked was about what he thought his best move was as a general manager. Morey said it was the trade that saw the Rockets acquire, Kyle Lowry, back in 2009.
Lowry came into the league in 2006, and the Rockets wanted him then trying to acquire a second first round pick to take him.
In 2009, Morey was finally able to pull off a move sending Rafer Alston to the Orlando Magic and the Memphis Grizzlies sending back Lowry. At the time, Morey thought Lowry was a guy who could contribute right away, and that he did.
“He’s a player we thought could fit well here and really contribute,” Morey said via the Houston Chronicle. “He’s a really good defender; good rebounder on both ends; can attack the hoop in the halfcourt or in transition, gets to the line – one of the top 10 guys in the league getting to the line; kicks it out to shooters; knows his role, someone who will know he needs to get the ball to Yao (Ming); someone who is really going to do what coach (Rick) Adelman will ask him to do.
Lowry spent three and a half seasons with the Rockets before moving on to the Toronto Raptors.
