The Houston Rockets have started the season 4-7, and general manager Daryl Morey says the team is evaluating everything and that it’s unfair for the critics to single out small forward Carmelo Anthony.
The Rockets enter Sunday with the second-worst offense in the NBA, as the team is only averaging 101.5 points per game. Houston had the best record in the NBA last year and averaged 112.4 points per game, which was second in the league.

The Rockets’ discussions with Carmelo Anthony are related to a possible reduction in playing time moving forward, according to Jonathan Feigen of The Houston Chronicle. Shooting guard Eric Gordon is back from his injury and rookie Gary Clark has been more effective than Anthony, who is averaging 13.4 points and 5.4 rebounds on the season while shooting 40.5 percent from the field, 32.8 percent from beyond the arc and 68.2 percent from the free-throw line.
Opponents have an offensive rating of 119.2 when Carmelo Anthony is on the floor for the Rockets. That rating drops to 108.0 when Anthony goes to the bench. This shouldn’t be that much of a surprise. Melo is one of the worst defenders in the league. He can’t stay in front of anyone and usually saves his energy for the offensive end.
So what’s next? Daryl Morey told local reporters that Carmelo Anthony still wants to play for the team, but he wouldn’t say if that’s for sure going to happen. It looks like this situation is very fluid and that we’re just going to have to wait and see what the Rockets do.
