Rockets’ Daryl Morey claims James Harden is a better scorer than Michael Jordan

James Harden over Michael Jordan? Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey is taking his own player over the Hall of Famer, six-time NBA champion, and “GOAT.”

He spoke about the choice on the “Dan Patrick Show” on Monday:

Morey claims Harden is a better than Jordan. MJ, who spent 14 storied seasons in the NBA, averaged 30.1 points per game and shot 44.5% from the field. Harden, meanwhile, the league’s MVP in 2017-18 and a two-time scoring champ, has averaged 24.3 points per game and 44.3% from the floor, including 36.5% from 3-point range and 85.7% from the free throw line in his 10-year career.

MJ has often been the source of debate and arguments about GOAT status… but it normally falls under the category of the best to ever play the game, not just a pure scorer. Jordan was the third highest-scoring player in the NBA when he retired; now he’s fifth on the list as Kobe Bryant and LeBron James have surpassed High Airness.

Harden has been one of the league’s best scorers in this generation, up there with James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry. However, he doesn’t have the accolades and stuffed trophy shelf as MJ. Jordan also led the league in scoring during his time for 10 seasons and was also the preeminent scoring threat when it mattered most: the playoffs. Jordan owns the single-game record for most points in a postseason game, knocking down 63 against Larry Bird and the Boston Celtics in Game 2 of the first round of the 1986 playoffs.
