Rockets’ Daryl Morey admits he hated Russell Westbrook with Thunder

Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey admits he hated Russell Westbrook when the former MVP was with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

There’s arguably no one in the league who plays with the passion and energy which Westbrook has. It’s one of the reasons Thunder fans loved Westbrook. Win or lose, you know what you’re going to get from Westbrook every night.

Now, Morey loves Westbrook because he’s on the Rockets. Same goes for Rockets fans, who used to boo Westbrook when he was in OKC.

2019-20 is all about dynamic duos in the NBA. The Rockets have Westbrook and James Harden, the Los Angeles Lakers have LeBron James and Anthony Davis, while the Los Angeles Clippers have Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.

The Rockets, though, are the only team with two MVPs leading the charge.

Westbrook is just the second player in Rockets franchise history to record at least 30 straight 20-point games. Harden has done so three different times. In his first season with the Rockets, Westbrook is averaging 27.5 points, 7.9 rebounds and 7.1 assists. The nine-time All-Star is shooting 47.3 percent from the field, 25.3 percent from beyond the arc and 78.1 percent from the free-throw line.

Neither Westbrook nor Harden has a championship on their résumé. This season marks a great opportunity for both All-Stars to capture their first title.

Westbrook, who averaged a triple-double three seasons in a row coming into this year, has 20 double-doubles and eight triple-doubles on the season. The Rockets are 33-17 with Westbrook in the lineup and 39-21 overall on the season, which is good for fourth place in the Western Conference standings.
