Rockets’ Danuel House says his mother encouraged him to make game-sealing 3-pointer vs. Suns

Danuel House, Rockets, Suns

It’s almost as if he never left. Houston Rockets forward Danuel House was back in red for his squad Friday versus the Phoenix Suns, his first game with the franchise since Jan. 14 after having run out of days on his two-way contract. But he was back in the thick of it from the get-go, knocking down a clutch three-pointer in the waning moments. After the game, he gave a shoutout to his mother, via Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle:

“I made sure I held my follow-through for my mom because she was screaming at me, ‘Make your shot! Don’t be a volume shooter; be a maker.’”

And a maker House was. He went for 4-for-8 from deep versus the Suns, tying his single game career high. He finished with 18 points overall, adding in three rebounds during his 35 minutes on the floor. With House back in the mix, Chris Paul headed to the sidelines for rest purposes, allowing the Rockets to keep their rotations consistent.

House’s second go-round with Houston is markedly different from his first. Earlier this season, the Rockets were desperate for warm bodies that could compliment James Harden while Paul, Clint Capela and others battled injuries. Now, Houston seems to be revving into gear for a playoff push. As per the terms of having his deal converted, House will be eligible for the postseason, having carved out a niche with the Rockets in his 26 games.

Shooting 39.8 percent from long range, House is looking to follow his mother’s advice and be a shot maker, one that the Rockets can rely upon.
