Rockets commends Clint Capela for morale-boosting Game 3 block on Warriors’ Andre Iguodala

Clint Capela, Rockets

Taken on its own, Clint Capela’s two-handed block on Andre Iguodala in Game 3 was nothing short of a superhuman feat. But from the perspective of the Houston Rockets, the block was not just a great stop, it also boosted their morale. Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni tagged the block as ‘unbelievable,’ noting that the response from the crowd was equally astonishing as well.

“It was unbelievable,” Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni said per Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle. “That was one of the better blocks. The wow factor, where you have 20,000 people going crazy for something that is an unbelievable, athletic gesture where they would have dunked on somebody and then you have the crowd, ‘oh my gosh.’

The block occurred in the first quarter — perhaps the quarter which sets the tone for the rest of the game. The Rockets were down 2-0 entering Game 3. A poor opening quarter against the back-to-back defending champions would likely snag away some confidence from the Rockets.

James Harden was aware of this. And he believes that Capela’s big block not only hyped up the crowd, but it also signified that they’re still in this series.

“That play right there was magnified. We needed it. The crowd got into it. We got into it. It was, “OK, we’re here.’ That gave us a boost of energy.”

Game 4 will be on Monday, at 9:30 p.m. ET. Will the momentum born out of Capela’s block work its way to tie the series up at two games apiece?
