Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni speaks out on Nets’ Kenny Atkinson’s firing

Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni is pretty confused why the Brooklyn Nets parted ways with Kenny Atkinson on Saturday.

Atkinson went 118-190 during the regular season with the Nets. He helped Brooklyn make the playoffs last season, where the Nets lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in five games in the first round.

The timing of his move is strange, that’s for sure. The Nets are in the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference standings without Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Brooklyn has really put Jacque Vaughn, who will assume duties as interim head coach for the remainder of the season, in a tough position.

The Nets are 28-34 on the season. They are only .5 games ahead of the Orlando Magic in the playoff standings.
