Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni says James Harden gets ‘antsy’ when he takes him out of games

Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni says All-Star guard James Harden gets “antsy” when he takes him out of games.

So if anyone thinks D’Antoni is going to rest Harden just because the reigning MVP is dealing with a minor shoulder/neck ailment, think again, via Alykhan Bijani of The Athletic:

James Harden is second in the league in minutes per game at 37.3. Only Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal (37.6)  plays more minutes than The Beard on a nightly basis.

In the past, Harden has looked tired and worn out in the playoffs. That’s why some fans in Houston want him to get some rest with the season coming to a close so that their star is healthy and fresh for the postseason.

It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen, though. Harden has said many times he prides himself on playing in every game. The seven-time All-Star has also been lifting more weights this season to build his lower body.

In 66 games this season for the Rockets, Harden has been nothing short of spectacular. The 29-year-old is averaging 35.9 points, 6.4 rebounds and 7.6 assists per contest while shooting 43.5 percent from the field, 35.5 percent from beyond the arc and 87.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Harden is on pace to lead the NBA in scoring for the second consecutive season.
