Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni on what Warriors series will come down to

Mike D'Antoni, Rockets

With just one game in, most are convinced that the Golden State Warriors are truly the better team than the Houston Rockets. Head coach Mike D’Antoni already seems to know this, but being the competitor that he is, he won’t accept it as a fact.

As reported by Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle, Mike D’Antoni shared his thoughts on the series with the Warriors. His words suggest that they will go down swinging against the defending champs:

They are highly considered as the underdogs in the series. D’Antoni’s words might have a little weight added on to them given these circumstances.

Their go-to play in the regular season has always been isolation ball — a playstyle many believe will not work in the playoffs, especially with an elite caliber team in the Warriors.

D’Antoni, however, ignored what other people said. A few days before Game 2, D’Antoni said, as per Tom Haberstroh of Bleacher Report:

“It’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, they iso! That’s all they do.’ No, it isn’t,” D’Antoni said. “That’s what we do best. We scored like 60 percent of the time on it. It’s like … ‘Oh, they don’t pass. Everybody stands.’ Really? Have you watched us for 82 games?

“That’s what we do. We are who we are, and we’re pretty good at it. And we can’t get off who we are. Embrace it. Just be better at who we are and don’t worry about if somebody else solves the puzzle a different way.”
