Rockets’ coach Mike D’Antoni didn’t think Houston played well in Game 1

The Houston Rockets took game one over the Minnesota Timberwolves. They won by three points, 104-101. Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni believes that despite the win, his team didn’t play well in the first game.

As reported by Tim MacMahon, D’Antoni said:

A win is still a win, as most players would say. Yet given that the Rockets are the first seed, and the best team in the NBA at that, perhaps he expects them to hand a pummeling on the eight seeded Wolves.

A look at the stat sheet reveals that the Rockets did a pretty decent job on defense. They held the Wolves to 43.8 percent shooting from the field, 34.8 percent from downtown. Five players scored in double figures from the Wolves. No one reached the 20-point plateau.

However, as D’Antoni pointed out, they could’ve played much better on D as they were apparently struggling on offense. And the word offense has been synonymous to D’Antoni.

They shot just 10-of-37 from the three-point arc for a measly 27 percent. Rockets guard Chris Paul voiced out his concerns regarding the poor shooting night, as reported by the Associated Press:

“We’ve had games like this throughout the season and the biggest thing that I’ve learned, that I think our teams knows is that we don’t stop shooting,” Paul said. “We still take the shots that we get and coming into Game 2 guess what? We’re going to shoot them again because we have that confidence.”

Game two will be held in Houston on April 18, 9:30 pm ET.
