Rockets’ Clint Capela says he has to be more aggressive, may start shooting corner 3-pointers

Clint Capela

Houston Rockets big man Clint Capela has seen his name being thrown around in a number of trade rumors of late. With the Rockets considering a potential squad overhaul following another disappointing playoff exit, Capela could find himself on a different team soon.

However, despite all this, the 24-year-old has chosen to set all the noise aside. Instead, he’s focused on making himself a better player for the season ahead. Speaking to The Athletic’s Alykhan Bijani, Capela explained what exactly he wants to work on this summer:

“As long as I can be more aggressive, that will help,” he said. “I really think about corner 3-pointers because that’s a 3 and we like to shoot 3s. I’ll definitely get better and be more aggressive.

“Now I need to elevate my game by being more aggressive. Doesn’t matter if it’s by shooting the jumper or attacking the rim. I need to do it more consistently. I feel I got all that: The moves, attacking the rim, I showed that I can pass the ball. I gotta be able to have that confidence to attack, man, attack.”

In his fifth season with Houston, Capela averaged career-high marks in points (16.6), rebounds (12.7), and assists (1.4). However, he did not drain a single 3-pointer last season. As a matter of fact, he hasn’t been able to do so throughout his career (he is 0-of-2 overall from distance in five years), so this would definitely be a new facet to his game if he starts shooting them.

Capela is already one of the most promising centers in the NBA, and adding a 3-point shot to his arsenal might just propel him to the upper echelon of big men in the game today. But even if he doesn’t begin shooting 3s, he knows he simply has to be more aggressive and not be as hesitant at times.
