Rockets’ Clint Capela doing everything other than physical contact as he recovers from thumb surgery

Houston Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni says starting center Clint Capela is doing everything other than physical contact as he makes his way back from thumb surgery.

Capela underwent right thumb surgery in January after suffering ligament damage. D’Antoni says the 7-footer looks good, but won’t commit to the talented big man playing for the Rockets as soon as the All-Star break is over.

On with @SportsMT, Coach D’Antoni says Clint Capela is doing everything other than physical contact (such as cardio, shooting, etc.) and “looks good”. Won’t be determined if he plays post-ASB until they have their first few practices before taking on Lakers next Thursday.

In 42 games this season for Houston, Clint Capela is averaging 17.6 points, 12.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest. The 24-year-old is shooting 63.1 percent from the field and 62.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Capela has 29 double-doubles on the season. The Rockets are 24-18 when he’s in the lineup.

Houston signed Kenneth Faried after he was bought out by the Brooklyn Nets, and the veteran has been a huge addition for the team while Capela has been out. Faried is averaging 16.3 points and 10.2 rebounds in 11 games with the Rockets while shooting 64.7 percent from the floor.

The Rockets are 33-23 on the season, good for fourth place in the Western Conference standings. The team is going to be even more dangerous once Clint Capela returns to the lineup. Houston takes on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday before embarking on the NBA All-Star break.
