The relationship between Paul and Harden has been in question ever since the Rockets lost to the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the 2019 playoffs. Paul and Harden apparently want Houston’s offense to be ran differently. Harden is content with the isolation ball head coach Mike D’Antoni lets him play, while Paul wants more ball movement and Harden to move around when he The Beard doesn’t have the ball in his hands.
Since the NBA began, stars and alpha dogs have always butted heads. Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal won three-straight titles together with the Los Angeles Lakers despite not being on the best of terms behind the scenes. Feuds inn basketball will always be there, but it’s up to the players to put their egos to the side once the games starts and it appears Paul and Harden aren’t able to do that.
This response by Paul shouldn’t come as a surprise. The Rockets guard isn’t going to admit a rumor is true. If Houston brings back both Paul and Harden next season, all eyes are going to be on them and how they interact with one another.
