Houston Rockets point guard Chris Paul was able to pay homage to his good friend, Miami Heat guard Dwayne Wade, in his final game. However, it seems Paul is ready to get playoff basketball started.
Houston is set to square off against the Utah Jazz in the first round of the NBA Western Conference playoffs. According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, Paul says there is nothing like the postseason:
“Nothing like it,” Paul said. “I felt excited when I woke up this morning. I flew back after the game last night and got here and I’m excited. It’s a different feeling when we get to the playoffs.
Paul’s comments are certainly understandable. Few players have enjoyed the level of success he has had during his career. Watching Wade retire likely makes him even more appreciative of the fact that he is still able to compete for a championship.
At the same time, it also serves as a reminder to Paul that his window to get that elusive ring is closing with each year. The Rockets took everyone by surprise when they managed to force the Golden State Warriors to Game 7 and nearly pulled off an upset in the final seconds. The pressure is now on Houston to finish the job this time around. Of course, that could prove to be difficult now that the reigning champs somehow managed to get even better with the addition of center DeMarcus Cousins. Regardless, Houston will first need to figure out a way to get past Utah as quickly as possible.
