Rockets’ Chris Paul oozing confidence despite loss to Timberwolves: ‘Somebody’s gotta beat us 4 out of 7 times’

Derrick Rose, Chris Paul

The Houston Rockets look like a shell of themselves, but Chris Paul doesn’t seem too concerned with his team’s slow start. Following Houston’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday, Paul reiterated his confidence in his team:

“I’m still not that concerned, to tell you the truth,” Paul replied to Reid Forgrave of CBS Sports. “Somebody’s gotta beat us four out of seven times. I don’t see that happening.”

There are two ways to look at these comments from Paul. Obviously, the Rockets are still stacked with top-tier talent like Paul, James Harden, and Clint Capela. Beating those three in a seven-game series would be a tall task for almost every team in the league.

However, the Rockets currently sit in 13th place in the Western Conference and are owners of an 11-12 record as the season begins to push towards Christmas. There are legitimate reasons to be concerned about Houston’s chances at contending for another title this year. They don’t have the same kind of depth on the roster that brought them within one game of the NBA Finals last year.

That being said, it’s still unlikely that the Rockets will miss the playoffs this year. They have far too much talent to be on the outside looking in when all is said and done. Furthermore, the Western Conference is close from top to bottom (with the exception of Phoenix). Houston remains one game out of the final playoff spot and only five games out from first place.

There is plenty of time for the Rockets to right the ship. Paul’s confidence tells us a lot about the mood in the locker room and the quiet confidence Houston still possesses.
