Rockets’ Chris Paul notches triple-double for the first time this season

chris paul

Many have doubted Chris Paul to begin this season mainly due to his injury history and an expected decline in his play. Worse, the Houston Rockets’ monumental slump hasn’t helped the case of one of the top point guards in the NBA today.

In the Rockets’ Tuesday night win over the Portland Trail Blazers, though, Paul proved to everyone that he can still significantly impact a game — and in several ways at that.

Despite shooting an abysmal 2-of-12 from the field, the floor general out of Wake Forest was able to notch a triple-double — his first of the season — with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists. He also stole the ball three times and erred only once in 33 minutes of play.

Chris Paul and the Rockets have struggled mightily to begin the season, falling outside of the playoff race as of this writing.

This team is built to go deep in the postseason. But the losses of Trevor Ariza and Luc Mbah A Moute dealt a huge blow to their rejuvenated defense. Furthermore, the Carmelo Anthony experiment backfired so bad it caused instability and a bit of distraction to the Rockets early on.

Still, Houston’s big three of Paul, James Harden, and Clint Capela are enough reason to believe that last year’s top regular season team will eventually get back their mojo at some point this season.

The Western Conference playoff race is as crazy as it gets. A mini-streak from Chris Paul and co. would instantly launch them upwards in the seedings. All they gotta do is to never look back and this win could be the start.
