Rockets’ Chris Paul exits vs. Heat with hamstring injury, won’t return

Chris Paul, Rockets,

Houston Rockets All-Star point guard Chris Paul suffered a left hamstring strain against the Miami Heat on Thursday and was forced to exit the game.

The Rockets later announced that Chris Paul was done for the night.

Chris Paul has a history of suffering hamstring injuries. In the 2018 Western Conference Finals against the Golden State Warriors, the future Hall of Famer strained his hamstring in Game 5, and missed Games 6 and 7. As a result, the Rockets lost to the Warriors in Game 7 and weren’t able to advance to the NBA Finals.

Entering Thursday, Chris Paul was averaging 16.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 8.2 assists per game. The nine-time All-Star was shooting 41.6 percent from the field, 35.8 percent from beyond the arc and 80.9 percent from the free-throw line.

Are the Rockets starting to have second thoughts about giving Paul that massive four-year, $159.7 million maximum contract over the offseason? Paul is making $35.7 million this season. He is owed $38.5 next year and a whopping $41.4 million in 2020-21. CP3 is still one of the best point guards in the game, but he’s getting older and older and his hamstring just keeps getting strained.
