Rockets’ center Clint Capela isn’t worried about impending restricted free agency
Clint Capela faces a major season ahead, now more than ever forced to prove himself yet again after the Houston Rockets didn’t extend an offer to extend his rookie contract, which will make a good all-around performance imperative for the Swiss international if he is to shoot for big money in the offseason.
The 23-year-old is a lob-catching, floor-running, strong-finishing machine, who was proven himself valuable to an up-tempo offense that knows only one speed under Mike D’Antoni, and that is full throttle.
Yet Capela will have to make the most of this season to set himself for a successful future, whether it’s with the Rockets or another team.
“Honestly, I’m not worried about it,” Capela said, according to Kelechi Iko of The Dream Shake. “I’m looking just forward to the season, stay healthy and we’ll see what happens next summer. I just move forward, try to do the best for the team.”
Capela has been known to struggle at the line, but his raw athleticism and willingness to better his game has his ceiling quite high despite his woes at the charity stripe.
The big man knows his game and is effective at it, improving from last year’s incredible numbers to averaging 13.5 points and 11.3 rebounds per game in only a shade over 24 minutes of playing time, all while shooting a blistering 72.3 percent from the field — 9 percent better than his already impressive efficiency last season.
“We’ll see what happens,” Capela said regarding his future. “I like this team, but I know also this is the NBA. Anything can happen. I’m ready for whatever.”
