Speaking for the first time since it was announced that he will be out with a right thumb injury, Houston Rockets center Clint Capela told local reporters he doesn’t know if he is going to get surgery.
Clint Capela is expected to miss roughly four to six weeks with the ailment. The big man reportedly has ligament damage in his thumb and may get a second opinion with a hand specialist in the near future.

Capela has played in 42 games this season for the Rockets and been a model of consistency. The 6-foot-10 center is averaging 17.6 points, 12.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game while shooting an efficient 63.1 percent from the field.
The Rockets need Capela to be 100 percent for the playoffs. If having surgery is the only way to ensure that happens, then so be it. After all, it’s better to have Capela miss some regular season games and be 100 percent in the postseason rather than have a lingering injury going into the playoffs.
Houston is going to be forced to play Nene and Marquese Chriss extended minutes with Capela out of the lineup. Neither player can produce like Capela, though, so the Rockets are going to see their offense and defense take a hit.
