Rockets’ Carmelo Anthony gets a brutal fan-made NBA 2K highlight mix

Carmelo Anthony, Rockets

The Oklahoma City Thunder traded for Carmelo Anthony hoping he would be an effective third option behind Russell Westbrook and Paul George. Instead, Anthony declined in a big way, with the disappointing season culminating in a truly wretched playoff performance that rendered the future Hall of Famer nearly unplayable.

The Houston Rockets are now hoping that was more of a fluke than a sign of real, significant decline. However, one intrepid fan is assuming the worst, at least based on this NBA 2K highlight mix that features a whole lot of bad Melo:

This mix has just about all of Melo’s bad traits: bricked jumpers, ball hogging, jab steps, etc. There’s even a left-handed hook shot that misses badly thrown in there, and the end of the video features Melo sitting down on the bench with teammates looking on in disgust. All that’s missing is lazy defense.

Of course, as easy as it is to make jokes, there remains some reason for optimism regarding Anthony’s effectiveness in Houston. Perhaps playing with friend Chris Paul brings out the best in what Melo has left. Perhaps Mike D’Antoni uses Melo in a more optimal role. Anthony isn’t what he once was, but he could still be useful in the right situations.

Rockets fans just have to hope they get more of the good than the bad that’s highlighted in this video.
