Rockets believed to have waived Danuel House to open roster spot for a trade

Danuel House

The Houston Rockets head office are primed to make a significant deal in the immediate future, as they have recently freed up a roster spot by waiving 6-foot-7 forward Danuel House. The team have been performing below expectations so far this season, and this move is the clearest indication yet that a substantial trade may be in the works.

According to Jonathan Feigen of the Houston Chronicle, an anonymous source has leaked the Rockets’ imminent plans of shaking up their current squad.

The Rockets waived Danuel House Jr. to open a roster spot with the Rockets seeking a trade this week, a person with knowledge of the team’s plans said.

The Rockets are seeking a deal this week, in time to possibly include a player involved in another trade before the Feb. 7 deadline, the person with knowledge of the plans said.

The decision to waive House could indicate confidence that a deal will be made, though it comes at the risk that House would be picked up on waivers.

Simply put, the Rockets would not have pulled the trigger on such a bold move if it weren’t part of a bigger, more elaborate plan. Houston is in a bit of a rut right now, and if they intend to challenge the Golden State Warriors for the title, they will need to make some drastic improvements to their side. It appears that this may come by way of a trade sometime within the next month or so.

For his part, Daniel House will be parting ways with the team after making only five appearances for the Rockets. During this brief stint, the Texas A&M product averaged 8.4 points, 1.2 three-pointers, 2.8 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 21.1 minutes of action.
