Robert Horry received death threats from Spurs fans over Tim Duncan shade

Some things are considered sacred by sports fans and former San Antonio Spurs forward Robert Horry had to learn it the hard way.

The love for Tim Duncan by Spurs fans is untouchable. No one should diss the Hall of Fame power forward and expect no retaliation from San Antonio’s diehards.

Horry was a guest on the Road Trippin’ podcast, where he revealed how his critical comment on Duncan back in 2017 drew the ire of Spurs fans, leading to him receiving death threats.

“People were up in arms, it was crazy. I was getting death threats. The crazy part is my wife and I had to do an appearance in San Antonio at this event, and everybody was looking at me like this — [crosses arms with blank expression].”

To recall, Horry, in an appearance on ESPN’s The Jump, put Hakeem Olajuwon on a much higher pedestal than Duncan.

“I know Tim, he brought work ethic to practice, but it’s an extra level. To be a superstar, you have to go that extra level. I’m not saying that Tim’s not a superstar, but I’m saying what Dream brought to the game is amazing.”

To give Horry the benefit of the doubt, he did play with both legends. He also won championships for the Houston Rockets and Spurs. Heck, he even hit big shots in the Spurs’ 2005 NBA Finals conquest of the Detroit Pistons.

Then again, Tim Duncan is arguably the greatest power forward in the history of the game. Both Duncan and Olajuwon carry the resume of legends. They’re also legitimate winners.

Ultimately, one has to understand that the separation between these two greats isn’t that wide.
