Report: Some within Rockets organization admit Clint Capela has some growing up to do

Some members of the Houston Rockets reportedly believe center Clint Capela has some growing up to do, according to Kelly Iko of The Athletic.

The Rockets weren’t happy with the lack of production they got from Capela in the team’s second round playoff loss to the Golden State Warriors. Capela’s name has been mentioned in a bunch of trade rumors since the season ended.

Privately, some within organization admitted he had some growing up to do, juxtaposed with the rest of Houston’s starting lineup — all age 30 or above. A playoff exit like the most recent one can bring about dramatic reactions, but one prevailing thought was that their window of opportunity might have been closing faster than they anticipated.

During the 2018-19 regular season, Capela averaged 16.6 points, 12.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists while shooting 64.8 percent from the field.

As all Rockets fans know, Capela does all of his damage at the rim and is heavily dependent on All-Stars James Harden and Chris Paul. Capela doesn’t have a polished post up game and relies on lob passes from Harden and Paul.

In the playoff series lost to the Warriors, Capela was outplayed by Golden State’s Kevin Looney. Capela put up 8.8 points, 10.0 rebounds and had a negative plus/minus box score in four out of the six games.

The Rockets big man is only 25, so he has time to improve.
